Getting adapted to decision centricity during summer
Decisions are usually not the thing that are developed and thought after in daily business. Therefore it might seem surprising at first to truly concentrate in decision-making and improving the processes by large. One could say that product development, recruitment and sales might be more important themes than decisions and improving decision-making.
I was very surprised and skeptical at first about the decision aspect. But when the important business themes are taken to a more detailed review, it all comes down to one connecting factor. The connecting factor is that some options need to be cut away and some choices need to be made. Then looking back, it becomes more and more clear all the time how important decisions are in everything.
Asking questions is a daily thing. It can be one very simple answer that helps enormously to a problem that seemed complex. But how often is that happening in a processed environment, where asking questions is built-in and documented inside the system, even so that people know their and others’ roles and skills? How is it usually even possible to bring up ideas and advices, or develop them into decisions? I certainly remember many examples from business where things are forgotten, insight is not heard, communication becomes one of the biggest problems and same work is done in many places all over again.
Having worked in a decision-centric environment for a summer now, it is for sure interesting to take this new perspective to everything else. And surprisingly well it fits.
